Barricade® fire gel is a state-of-the-art hydrating polymer gel which creates a thermal barrier that clings to vertical surfaces making it ideally suited for exposure protection. By encapsulating the water into a gel product evaporation is significantly reduced. In addition the gelled product will stick to vertcal surfaces much better than foams or plain water alone.
Barricade® fire-retardant gel for homes can be applied to all exterior structural surfaces including metal, glass, stucco and wood. It
may also be applied with success to compressed gas cylinders, motor vehicles, fuel tanks.
When applied to vegetation, Barricade® gel can increase the defensible zone exposed to wildfire and will not damage plant life with the exception of possible leaf drop.
When properly applied, Barricade®:
- Forms an effective water barrier on roofs, walls, windows, propane tanks, trees and other fuels.
- Remains hydrated and effective for over 6 hours* and will not be blown off by winds.
- Can be applied easily using one of our High Pressure Fire Pumps and a Fire Hose Gel Eductor Kit.
- Does NOT require complicated batch or premixing.
- Is safe and does not harm the environment. Contains no NPE's or petroleum distillates!
- Is easy to clean up using plain water.
* When properly applied according to manufacturer's instructions.
IMPORTANT
NOTE ON GEL APPLICATION & WATER PRESSURE:
Gel applicators
combine gel concentrate with water and deliver it to the nozzle at a precise
mixture rate. The
mixture rate is calibrated at a specific applicator inlet pressure for the specified
applicator flow rate
(GPM). Failure to
provide the proper pressure for a specified nozzle flow rate will alter the mixture
rate of fire gels.
APPLICATOR FLOW RATE
vs. CALIBRATED INLET PRESSURE
15 gpm fire hose applicator = 100 psi
3 gpm garden hose applicator = 55 psi
Although
gel applicators will begin mixing gel into the water stream with as little as 30 PSI,
below the CALIBRATED INLET PRESSURE the gel will under hydrate, resulting
in a drier gel with reduced thermal effectiveness and a
faster dry-out time. On the other hand, pressures above the
CALIBRATED INLET PRESSURE can
result in over hydration which will reduce the products ability to cling
to vertical surfaces, however this can usually be corrected by
throttling back the engine to reduce
the pump pressure to obtain the wettest gel mixture possible that will
stick to a vertical surface.
It is the
users responsibility to ensure that the water delivery system being used is capable of providing the proper
CALIBRATED INLET PRESSURE for the specified eductor flow rate to allow the gel product to be
applied properly for maximum effectiveness.
Remember, gel concentrate alone is NOT a fire retardant.
It is the
water held in suspension in the gel that creates the thermal
barrier. |
